I just realized how vulnerable our current civilization has become. I talked about knowledge evolution in a previous post, and this type of evolution is really vulnerable. What if we all nuke each other to death, or a major natural disaster (super volcano, meteorite impact…) will cause a planetary disaster? Then its likely we need to start all over. Patches of technology will be left over, but will the people leftover have the knowledge to work with the technology? Will Internet still function? Perhaps its a good idea to start thinking about something like an Open (?) Knowledge Internet Server on the Moon which gathers (open source) knowledge (wikipedia, software, etcetera). And then when the ‘shit hits the fang’ its still possible to log into this server. How? Well I guess computers would need be operational to log into the server. Ahh well, its just an idea 🙂
It’s funny that in case of a global destructive event, the first thing you’d worry about is if internet is still working… 😀
Hehe, well its the internet where nowadays most of our knowledge can be found, don’t you think?
