Really strange, these Mars Trilogy books by Kim Stanley Robinson have been reviewed in a scientific journal (Ecological Economics 33 (2000) 167–169). These books are REALLY packed with information and ideas. The review led me after some googling to the International Society for Ecological Economics. So there really is a lot of research going on. But nowhere to test it… I agree that Mars would be a perfect test bed for new socio-eco-economic systems. Or could this also be done on the Earth? Or perhaps it is being done already..?
