Smart Displays

Thursday , 22, February 2007

There is something which I want for some time, a touch screen monitor tablet. I found out these are called ‘Smart Displays’ and currently two 15″ (the largest) have been made:

  1. The ViewSonic AirPanel. This site shows some information on how to install the thing.
  2. The Philips DesXcape. Here is more information about it. The price I could find is $1499.

There is just one problem, as I understand Microsoft sort of stopped the whole Smart Display venture and I don’t know if both devices can still be bought. The Philips website search page doesn’t find the DesXcage so I guess they discontinued support and selling of it, as if the whole thing was never even there… Its a shame, because these Smart Displays are really handy. You just sit on your couch, pick up a Smart Display and via touchscreen you can work on your PC, f.e. play music, word processing, etcetera.

Well, I think it is inevitable that these devices will become popular. I don’t know why the first attempt to market them didn’t work. Hope next time it will…
